Today we had eight students test their consumer products. We had fun setting up the experiments and putting into practice the scientific method that we have been studying about. We did consumer taste testing on applesauce, marshmallows, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate frosting, gummy bears, lemonade, oatmeal raisin cookies, and vanilla wafers. It was very interesting to see what brand was the favorite of our classmates.
Today we continued to explore the different layers of the rainforest. We watched the Planet Earth video on jungles which gave us a picture of what types of plants and animals we would find living in the rainforest. We continued our research on the canopy and understory layers. We also had some time to continue our PIXIE rainforest project, read a few books on the rainforest, and make some animals for our kapok tree.
Everyone had fun week looking up their stock prices and current events. We have found that everyone diversified their portfolios well and that overall their stocks are going up in value!
We had a guest speaker in 5th grade. Mr. Broni came to speak to the classes and we learned about ways to avoid being taken advantage of in the market. It was fascinating to hear about all the different ways people have fooled others into making bad investments in the past. We also learned about how important it is to start investing in your retirement as early as possible! |
