Today we discussed the difference between chemical and physical changes. We made prediction and observations and discussed what type of change took place. We watched paper burn and a candle melt as well as pasta dance with the help of vinegar and baking soda. Our TAG students made solutions with salt and water and pepper and water and watched to see what would happen. We did so many experiments today! We really had a great time learning about the differences between chemical and physical changes.

Last week we took swabs of a variety of places around the school to test for the presence of bacteria. This week we looked at the cultures that grew in our petri dishes. We have learned that while most bacteria is not harmful, it is wise to wash your hands frequently since bacteria is everywhere!
Today we applied all the wise consumer skills we have learned in class to plan a party on a $50 budget! Everyone had to decide which products and brands they wanted to purchase for their parties. Then, everyone researched which stores had the best prices for the chosen products. Sometimes, some items had to be returned or a different brand selected so the group could buy everything they wanted and stay within the $50 budget.
We continued working on our Matter projects using PIXIE. We also learned a little bit about molecules and atoms today.
The groups worked hard to figure out the source of the e-Coli that has made the people in Barrow county sick. It is hard to connect all the clues, but we are making progress.
In addition to working on the simulation, the classes collected samples from all around the school to see if any bacteria is present. We swabbed surfaces and then petri dishes with agar. We can't wait to see if any bacteria cultures grow! |
