Our challenge today was to build a stable cube. Using the information we learned in the past, everyone was able to build a cube out of straws and pipe cleaners! It is a lot harder than it looks. Next time we will be off to bigger and better challenges!

Art Deco and Cubism were the topics for the museums unit this week. Everyone created Art Deco pictures using Pixie in the computer lab.
We continue to work on our medical pioneer research project. Today most of us were able to finish our research, complete our story boards, collect images of our medical pioneer, and begin to create our projects in Photo Story 3.
Today we used the scientific method to design a class experiment to test different brands of cheddar cheese crackers. Ask your student which one was he/she favorite and what the class liked best. We calculated the cost per serving and decided which was the best consumer choice.
We also picked tentative products to test individually. Please discuss your student's choice and let Mrs. O'Brien know if you do not approve of the selection. Each student will need three different brands of a product of their choice and the price of each one. We will design experiments in class and should be ready to do our experiments by mid to late October. Today we continued our research on Yellowstone National Park. We looked under a microscope at some bison hair, rocks and soil from around Yellowstone. We also took "green screen" pictures of us to put into our Photo Story 3 research projects.
Are you a square was our lesson for today. We measured our height and arm span and used the information to create a class graph.
This week we learned about Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Pointillism. We created impressionist art in Pixie and Pointillism pictures on index cards. We found out pointillism is really hard!
Today we continued discussing and researching medical advancements that were made during WWII. Students self-selected a medical pioneer to research and for a final project they will take their research and create a Photo Story 3 project about their pioneer.
We sang 50 Nifty today and tested our skills on how many of the states we could locate on a map. Students selected the state that they were interested in researching and brainstormed questions that they had about their state. We started off our research by looking through books about our state that we checked out of the Media Center.
