Today was the last day of our TAG 5th grade Pioneer Unit. We became inventors with a challenge, just as the many groups of people that we studied during this unit. We had two challenges, the first, was to build a structure with 7 strands of spaghetti and only 1 inch of tape. The structure had to have a vertical component and be able to withstand a shaking table and blowing. In the second challenge, students had to create the tallest structure that they could using 9 inches of tape and as many pieces of spaghetti as they needed. Take a look at our results. Have a wonderful winter holiday! See you next year!

Last week we did a decision making lesson and we got to plan a birthday party on a budget of $50. The class made some very wise consumer choices.
We concluded our Consumer fair unit with Power Point presentations to share the consumer test results. We found out that many of the brands we thought would be the best consumer buy were not the best choice after all! We concluded our unit on art movements and famous artists this week. The Photostory 3 artist digital stories turned out wonderfully. Everyone enjoyed learning about the different artists from their peers.
Today we are working on Food Chains. Each group of students is researching a food chain of their choice. Then the team's job is to design a Paper Slide Video from their research. A food chain shows how living things depend on one another for food. This is the ending to our unit on animals and their interdependence on one another.
Today we finished up our projects from our unit on architecture. We did our projects in Pixie. When we finished we drew house plans for our dream houses. Some of our houses had rooms for our Legos and crafts.
Today we wrapped up our lesson on pioneering women of WWII. We finished up our research and used it to create a QR code with information about our trailblazer. Our magazine covers came out amazingly well. Take a look at a few.
We finished working on our Everglades endangered animals today, and watched a short video about several other animals that were on the endangered animal list. We looked at some animals that would be extinct in our lifetime if conservation attempts did not work. We decided that it is important to know how to take care of our resources and protect the animals around us.
