We continued to do research on the medical pioneer that we selected last week in class. Students used their notes to create a script and story board with images. We then turned our information into a Photo Story 3 video project. Our plan is to complete the project next week.

We started our day by using the information we learned last week to analyze breakfast cereal. We found some of them to be more nutritious than others. Then we finished our package and advertisement creations. Everyone got to give a short presentations (like a TV commercial) to tell the class about their wonderful new product. We ended the day by learning about the scientific method.
In TAG today we played a game called Name This Place where the children learned about some famous American landmarks. We read and discussed a book called But I Read It On The Internet. The students learned how important it is to check internet sources for accuracy. We also learned what .com and .edu means. We then spent the rest of our day researching places that we wanted to go on our state field trip.
Today was a day of investigation and research. We used print and internet websites to find out more about our vacation in Yellowstone. Some of us were able to begin typing up our information on the park. Next Tuesday we will continue our adventure at Yellowstone National Park.
The question of the day was...Why do buildings and bridges collapse? This question led us through a discussion about how to make a structure stable. We did experiments to see which shape is the most stable. Ask your children what they discovered.
Today we learned about many different jobs at the zoo. We were surprised to learn that some of the jobs do not require working with animals. We got to select a job we found interesting and fill out a job application!
After learning about the different habitats represented at zoos and doing a little research, everyone created digital pictures of their favorite zoo habitats using Pixie.
Second grade TAG students continued working on our Pillars of Strength lesson from last week. Our goal was to keep the height and the diameter of our paper tube the same. The variable that we changed today on our tube was the thickness of paper. We wanted to see which team could stack the highest number of books on their tube.
This week we learned about Renaissance art and tried our hand at creating art on a ceiling like Michelangelo. It is a lot harder than it looks!
Today in class we watched a short video as an introduction to World War II. We spent some time discussing what occurred on the battlefields and on the home front during the war. We learned that World War II was the perfect environment for medical advancements to be made. We then selected a medical pioneer to research. We will continue with this activity next week because our goal is to create a Photo Story 3 project on the medical pioneer that we selected.
