This week we continued our stock market simulation and our research on the companies we watched on the real stock market. It is very interesting to learn about the companies and how they were founded.

Today we concentrated on finding information on one of the selected educational destinations for our field trip proposals. After finding the basic facts, the class determined if their site matched the GPS standards for third grade. We looked for pictures to help explain why we think our destinations are appropriate for a field trip and why they would be interesting to visit. We continued to add the new information to the Power Point presentations we started a few weeks ago. The class has found some unusual and interesting educational sites to visit!
Today we will be looking at an exemplar before we begin to create our own Power Point presentation on our consumer fair product. We will use our independent investigations, pictures, and data collection to create our individual presentations. This will take several weeks of typing and editing to complete.
We learned how to take pictures in front of a green screen today. We will use these pictures to put us in our rainforest PIXIE pictures and stories.
Today we were back in TAG class after our break for testing. We continued on our journey through the rainforest, and traveled to the layer known as the forest floor. We learned that this is the layer where you will find fungi, moss, and shrubs. If you look carefully you will see termites, tarantulas, lizards, leaf cutting ants and pit vipers. We also learned about a bird called the nightjar. This bird is amazing because it is able to see in the dark.
Everyone was excited to get back to a normal schedule and resume our stock market unit this week. We started a simulation stock market game and continued monitoring the real stocks we had chosen to invest in at the beginning of the unit. A few people have lost a little of their investment money, but the majority of the students have made money. One person has made over $25,000 on their $100,000 investment!
Today was our first week back after TAG testing. We continued with our consumer experiments and collected data on what food brands were a favorite of our classmates. We took the time to write down the serving per container and the price of each item. We soon will be figuring out which brand tasted the best and was the best consumer buy. We had fun learning and helping each other.
Everyone was happy to be back to a normal schedule for TAG today. We continued working on our state projects by selecting three educational places to visit. Everyone found the address, hours of operation, and cost of admittance in addition to what exciting things can be learned at the selected sites.
