Today was egg day in class. We read about eggs and did many experiments with eggs. We watched a video on how eggs go from the hen house to the market. We sucked eggs into bottles, watched a rubber egg bounce, and watched as they became buoyant in water. Try the recipe called Nighty, Nights that was sent home with the students.

Today in class we had fun learning all about heat and heat energy. We talked about radiation and conduction and learned how they are different. We talked about thermometers and the differences between the Fahrenheit and Celsius scales. We found out that most of the world uses the Celsius scale. We did several experiments with ice cubes. We had a contest to see who could get their ice cube to melt the fastest. We then did an experiment to see who could keep their ice cube from melting. We used many different materials to keep our ice cube from melting. Take a look at the pictures to see how much fun we had.
We learned about advertising and packaging today. Everyone picked an ad to analyze and share with the class. We also explored the PBS web site Don't Buy It! to learn about advertising tricks and strategies. http://pbskids.org/dontbuyit/
We continued learning about viruses and bacteria this week. After watching a few short videos about viruses and videos the class worked in teams to research and create a comic strip about their favorite germ.
Today our topic was: Can you see heat? We learned about heat energy and what the terms conduction and radiation meant. We did several experiments with ice cubes. We also did an experiment called the warm glove experiment. We all thought that the temperature on the thermometer inside the glove would go up from 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We were shocked to learn that we were incorrect.
Today we started our TAG class learning about taste buds. We were so excited to see how our taste buds looked under a zoomy microscope. The microscope let us see how our tastebuds would look if they were 25 time bigger. That was really cool. We did an experiment where we mapped our tongue to see if we could detect the taste of sour, sweet, bitter or salty on a particular part of our tongue. We used lemon juice, sugar water, cocoa, and salt water in our experiment. We learned that scientists believe that there aren't any specific areas on our tongue that are more sensitive to any one of these taste.
Next, we learned how to calibrate a scale when we weighed our baby potatoes. We measured them, and looked at them with a magnifying glass. Finally we turned our baby potatoes into Minions! We began our Epidemic unit today with a brainstorming lesson on What makes people sick? Later, we took a pre-assessment on viruses and bacteria to see what we already knew about them. Finally, we spent the rest of the day working together in teams and later in pairs to read, research, and work on a compare and contrast lesson on viruses and bacteria.
Today we had fun working in groups to brainstorm about Things People Buy. After we created extensive lists, we categorized the ideas. Each group presented and justified their ideas. We finished up with a discussion about what a consumer is and why people buy things or pay for services.
Today we began the day with a discussion about our taste buds and what we use them for. Did you know that children have over 10,000 taste buds while adults average about 5,000? We looked at our taste buds using a zoomy microscope.
