Building bridges out of straws was the challenge of the day! Students were asked to build a straw bridge that could span a 30 cm gap. Our bridge would have to be able to support 400 grams on its road bed to meet the challenge. Take a look at what we came up with! Later we worked on creating bridge blue prints. Today we began learning about the important role that women played in WWII. We started off with a famous poster, "Rosie the Riveter," and we read several interviews that discussed the problems that women encountered and the opportunities that opened up for some women during and after World War II.
We are ready to begin using Microsoft Word to type our research information about our state. Some of us even began to do our Power Points today. We learned about saving our work to our flash drives and or to our folders. Learning about and using technology is our favorite part about doing research!
Today we finished out last experiment. We calculated the cost per serving and decided which products were the best consumer buy. Next we will create Power Point presentations so we can share the results with you!
The classes are finishing up their research and writing stories about their chosen artists. After that, pictures will be collected and a Photostory movie will be created.
Today we traveled to the Everglades National Park, the only place in the world where crocodiles and alligators can be found living together. We learned about how important perphyton is to the Everglades ecosystem. We selected an endangered animal to research and began looking up information that would help us to create a brochure or an advertisement to help save our endangered animal.
After watching a movie called Building Big: Bridges and learning about blue prints, the classes designed a bridge of their own. Bridges are challenging! We will be continuing our bridges next week.
We have finished reading our books about famous artists and are currently doing Internet research. After completing our notes, we will create a story about the life of the artist, gather pictures to help tell the story and make a digital story using PhotoStory 3.
