Today we talked and read about the last layer of the rainforest, the forest floor. On the forest floor you will see many different animals and plants such as the millipede, poison arrow frog, pit viper, ocelot, litter frog, herbs, leaf litter, moss and fungi. We learned that it is a pretty dark place and very little light filters down to this layer.

Today was presentation day in class. We all were able to present the research that we did on one of the companies that we selected and purchased stock in. We had a variety of projects to share with each other. Some of us decided to do Infographics, Power Points, or posters.
Today we had our Consumer Scientist presentations for our parents and friends. We learned about different brands of our favorite foods and which one is the best consumer choice. Sometime the expensive name brands do not taste as good as the store brands! We have all learned how to be wise consumers!
Today was our final day of our AMERICA unit. Students completed their field trip brochures and graded themselves with a rubric. Later TAG students conferenced with Mrs. D'Amelio and discussed why they graded themselves the way they did on their rubric. TAG students also finished up their state games and played them with each other.
Congratulations to our Animation Team! Our 5th grade boys earned 3rd place at the state competition in Macon. YEAH!
We are testing students at this time for TAG. Please come back and visit after March 30th and see what's going on in our TAG classrooms at AES.
5th graders finished their simulation exercise today on the stock market. We sold all of our stocks, paid out a 3% commission and then checked to see if we had a loss or a gain from our initial $50,000.00 investment. Students also completed and presented their company news by sharing an infographic, a Power Point, or a poster with the class.
Today we put our finishing touches on our state field trip brochures and then we moved on to another creative activity. Students had the opportunity to design a state game centered around the research information that they learned about their state. Students had to decide what type of game they wanted and how it would look and what types of questions they would ask. During our next class we hope to finish our games and play them with each other.
After practicing our upcoming presentations, we did a decision making lesson. Each group got to plan a birthday party on a limited budget. Everyone used their new consumer skills to pick the best products to buy for the party.
